Azure Window, a rock arch, Gone forever

Malta

The area is still a scenic marvel and well worth a visit

Azure Window, was a scenic rock arch

Azure Window Sad News

Sadly the Azure Window has succumbed to a winter storm on 8 Mar 2017

For years the thin arch has has been expected to collapse and signs had been posted to stop people walking over the arch, often ignored.

What surprises me is that not only has the arch vanished but also the large supporting rock pillar of rock on the seaward side

Although the window was an iconic attraction the area is still full of charm, still extremely scenic and still well worth visiting

Description of The Azure Window  before it's destruction

The The Azure Window was a 50 metre high rock arch in the Dwejra Point cliffs. The sea had worn a hole through a narrow headland forming "the Azure window" called it-Tieqa in Maltese

This area is spectacular at any time, but rough seas make it even more spectacular.  In rough weather keep well above the high water line of crashing waves.
